Our Filmmaking Foundations I course is the best way for teenagers who are interested in filmmaking to find their footing and learn professional production skills. Our students receive a hands-on introduction to the digital video creative process, guided by an expert instructor and special guests. This beginner-level course is designed to help students explore their creative impulses, taking their ideas from conception to production and sharing them with the world. Whether they want to start their own YouTube channel or make a short film, this class is designed to kickstart their journey as a creator!
During this 7-week program, our students will learn the ins and outs of technical and conceptual filmmaking. Together, they will learn the language and tools of how films are made and participate in filmmaking exercises to test those skills. By the end of the course, they will have a completed project that directly reflects your creative vision, and be prepared for Filmmaking Foundations II (in the early spring), where they will utilize those skills to create a short film of their own making to send to film festivals across the country.
Students will gain hands-on experience using our camera, lenses, lighting, green screen and sound kits, as well as access to a recording studio and editing computers equipped with Adobe Creative Suite and other software. Whether they are looking for a collaborative environment to workshop an idea, launch a series, or express their artistic side, this class is the perfect starting point for their journey.
The Filmmaking Foundations courses conclude with an opportunity for students to premiere their work in a supportive, collaborative atmosphere during our Spring Showcase, celebrating their accomplishments.
